Future Spacecraft Study
Ideation, brainstorn, research, model making
Visiting researcher, co-designer
NASA JPL
The Future Spacecraft Study is an early stage (pre-phase A) ideation study to generate creative ideas for future spacecraft bus structure and elements concepts such as novel deployable structures, antennas, spacecraft subsystems, lander concepts, swarm formations, mothership-daughtership concepts etc.
The Visual Strategy studio generates ideas based on internal studies, and touches these ideas with scientists and engineers at the JPL lab who use them as inputs for engineering studies.
Several iterations of this study are planned.
This project is a fine example to illustrate how NASA understands the importance of artistic practice and design thinking methodology in the spacecraft engineering workflow.
